MODERN FORMS OF AGRI-FOOD ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The Center for Agri-Food Entrepreneurship in Messinia (CAEM) is organizing a seminar with the aim of presenting its actions and highlighting key entrepreneurship issues in the agri-food sector. The seminar will take place at the Elite City Resort hotel’s conference hall (2 Navarinou Street) in Kalamata, on Monday, May 13, from 18:00 to 21:00.

The Center’s main goal is to provide experiential training with the aim of developing business education and improving production-related skills. To this day, more than 280 people have been trained in topics such as Agritourism, Processing and Standardization of Olive Oil and Table Olives, Utilization and Cultivation of Aromatic and Medicinal Plants, Wine-Making and Social Media. In addition to its educational activities, the Center provides consulting services to businesses based in Messinia that are focused on developing new products.

In this context, Dr. Anastasios Darras, Assistant Professor of Floriculture at the University of Peloponnese, will discuss issues related to the potential of utilization in the Mediterranean flora. Mr. Makis Papoulias, entrepreneur, will present the "Arkadiani" agri-tourism unit. Dr. Costas Delis, Assistant Professor of Plant Biotechnology and Genetics at the University of Peloponnese, will deliver a presentation titled “Modernizing the traditional.” Mr. George Kokkinos, President of the “Nileas” Producer Group, and Mr. George Papadopoulos, member of the “Crimson” Grape Producer Group, will discuss the opportunities and challenges facing producer groups. Dr. Philippos Papadopoulos, Director of the Strategic Project Management Office of the American Farm School in Thessaloniki, will close the seminar by presenting the Center's progress thus far, and its future goals.

The talks will be followed by a light meal, and the participants will have the opportunity to try Messinian salad variations created by the chefs at the “Orizon” Vocational Training Institute. The products used are from businesses supported by the Center’s consulting service.
