Open seminar: “Agricultural Sector Prospects in Messinia, 2015”
The “Captain Vassilis and Carmen Constantakopoulos” Foundation has organized an open seminar on the topic: “Agricultural Sector Prospects in Messinia, 2015,” which will be taking place on Friday, November 6, at 17:00, at the conference center of the “Elite City Resort” hotel in Kalamata.
As part of its endeavors aimed towards establishing Messinia as a prime example of sustainable agricultural development, the “Captain Vassilis and Carmen Constantakopoulos” Foundation will be presenting the results of its actions, as well as current issues directly connected with agricultural development in the region. Part of the seminar is dedicated to presenting the results of the clinical research carried out on Americans regarding the beneficial properties of Messinian olive oil on cardiovascular health, as it is rich in oleocanthal and oleacein. The seminar agenda also includes the presentation of the advantages of the Messinian local varieties, as well as their promotion potential. A representative of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food will lay down the guidelines for the new Common Agricultural Policy, and other spokespeople will analyze the expansion of “P.D.O. Kalamata.” The seminar will conclude with the presentation of the Virtual Museum of Messinian Diet, as well as the announcement of the results of the collaboration between the “Captain Vassilis and Carmen Constantakopoulos ” Foundation and the Olive Oil Tasting Workshop of the Technological Educational Institute (T.E.I.) of the Peloponnese.
The aim of the workshop is to present the results of the various collaborations between the “Captain Vassilis and Carmen Constantakopoulos” Foundation and other organizations/initiatives, and to allow useful knowledge and information to be exchanged between the producers and the professionals of the Messinian rural economy regarding the developments and new prospects in the agricultural sector.
