“CIRCLE OF ART” 2021-2023

A project of the Kalamata Drama International Summer School

Circle of Art 2021
Second webinar – 28 June 2021

“Circle of Art” is a new educational initiative by the Kalamata Drama International Summer School (KaDISS) that wishes to contribute culturally to the area of Messinia and beyond. “Circle of Art” comprises a group of educational programs and cultural events, inviting performing arts students and professionals to re-approach their own art as well as art in general, or view it from a different perspective. Moreover, the initiative aims to help them develop new skills and broaden their horizons. The program begins this year and will run until 2023. “Circle of Art” began on May 24 2021, with a creative meeting that was broadcast live from Kalamata: The meeting was with fashion and costume designer Nathalie Bries, who is also a PhD researcher at the Sorbonne University. The webinars will continue with distinguished guests; a set designer followed by a playwright. Finally, at the end of this fall, the year will conclude with a pioneering international theatrical production organized by our event. By the end of the three years and the completion of the "Circle of Art" program, we will have explored and implemented a holistic approach to the creative process of what we call "theater", in the creation of theatrical performance and modern theater studies.

All webinars will take place in Kalamata with a specific number of participants, and they are free of charge.

During the second webinar, artistic director of KaDISS, director Andrew Visnevski, will hold a discussion with the award-winning set designer, artist and eminent professor Paweł Dobrzycki.

The webinar will be broadcast live on Monday, June 28, at 20:00 (local time).

We will accept up to 30 participants, based on CV/application. The deadline for applications is Friday, June 25. The duration of the seminar will be 90 minutes (including a 30-minute Q&A period. The webinar will be in English.

Those who wish to attend should send an email with their CV attached ([email protected]) and a short paragraph explaining why they are interested in participating in the webinar. Everyone will receive a response, and the required information will be provided.

The exclusive sponsor of "Circle of Art" is the Bareva Foundation in Liechtenstein, which also supports the Kalamata Drama International Summer School 2021 / KaDISS 2021.

A few words about Paweł Dobrzycki:

Paweł Dobrzycki graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków in 1980. Since then, he has created over 300 stage designs for theater, opera and musicals worldwide. He has also directed several independent productions, for which he designed both the set and the costumes. In order to achieve the stage set exactly as he has envisioned it, he always designs the lighting himself. He teaches at various academies: The Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków and the Krakow Theater Academy (formerly known as the State Theater High School), also the Academy of Fine Arts and the Theater Academy in Warsaw. In the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, he founded the Department of Stage Design – the first and only department for stage design studies in Poland to this day – bringing in as teachers some excellent set designers and artists. He sketches and paints nonstop, and he has authored and co-authored many published articles and several screenplays. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Polish Center (OISTAT / the International Organization of Theater Designers, Technicians and Architects) and a representative of Poland at the Education Committee. His work has travelled all over the world, including Greece; he has collaborated with Andrew Visnevski on the performance of Hamlet in Athens in 1997, and he has participated in various productions, including performances in Epidaurus.

Finally, we would like to remind you that applications for the 3d Kalamata Drama International Summer School / KaDISS 2021 will be open until July 16.
