SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT METHODS FOR OLIVE OIL CULTIVATION SEMINAR 17, 18 & 19 NOVEMBER

The Captain Vassilis and Carmen Constantakopoulos Foundation in collaboration with the Institute for the Olive Tree and Subtropical Plants of Chania and the International Olive Council invites you to attend the free three-day seminar on “Sustainable Management Methods for Olive Oil Cultivation”. The seminar will take place on 17, 18 & 19 November 2014 at the conference venue of the Elite City Resort hotel in Kalamata. The seminar is organized within the context of the action “Education of the olive oil sector in different areas of Greece on sustainable practices on the production, processing and promotion of olive oil.

Within this context of educational actions, the Foundation invites all interested organizations, producers and professionals of the olive oil sector as well as any member of the public to attend the three-day seminar to discover and learn about topics of modern olive oil cultivation. The seminar will cover topics such as the rationalized use of irrigation and fertilization, integrated plant protection of the olive orchard, the management of olive mill waste, certification, trade and promotion of olive oil and table olives, as well as other important issues of the agricultural sector.
In order to provide more comprehensive training and education to the participants, there will be visits to
a) olive orchards where demonstrations of tree pruning, soil and leaf sampling for analysis, and proper planning and maintenance of an irrigation system will take place
b) olive mills of the area where there will be a hands-on discussion on which processing practices can ensure olive oil quality.
On the last day of the program, all the participants and relevant professional bodies will discuss and analyse issues related to the region and submit proposals towards the drafting of a local strategic plan to develop and improve olive oil production in Messinia.
Admission is free and participants will receive a certificate of attendance at the end of the workshop. To facilitate transfers to the olive orchards and olive mill, please confirm your participation as soon as possible.
Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
